May 30 (Renewables Now) - Nexus Energia SA has been awarded a EUR-8.8-million (USD 9.8m) contract to supply electricity from renewables to Ferrocarrils de la Generalitat de Catalunya (FGC), the Catalan government-owned railway company, over the course of 2020.

FGC wants at least 25% of the supply to come from solar, while the rest can be covered by wind and hydropower.

For the duration of the contract, Nexus will deliver 110 GWh to 125 supply points that include metropolitan lines and several mountain stations that FGC operates.

In December 2018, FGC announced a new climate action strategy which stated that the company would use 100% certified renewable energy for its operations starting this year. Endesa SA (BME:ELE) won the contract for 2019.
