New Jersey-based Nautilus Solar Energy LLC said on Monday it has officially opened а 2.83-MW community photovoltaic (PV) plant in New York’s Orange County.
The installation is the first of three that will serve Orange and Rockland's utility service territory. The other two facilities, to be located in the towns of Greenville and Chester, are planned to be commissioned by the third quarter of this year. Nautilus Solar is taking care of the project management, long-term asset management and maintenance services for the three projects.
The Orange County solar garden in the hamlet of Westtown covers an area of 15 acres (6.1 ha). Its output will be used by qualified residential community solar subscribers in the two territories. The construction of the plant was backed with USD 1 million (EUR 890,000) from the New York State Energy Research and Development Authority (NYSERDA).
