August 31 (Renewables Now) - Spanish company Naturgy Energy Group SA (BME:NTGY), formerly Gas Natural Fenosa, announced today it has started construction works on a 39.6-MW wind farm.

The Monte Tourado-Eixe project, as it is named, has a total cost estimated at some EUR 39 million (USD 45.4m). It is located in the municipality of Vimianzo.

Comprised of 11 wind turbines supplied by Danish company Vestas Wind Systems A/S (CPH:VWS), the facility is expected to generate around 144 GWh per year, enough to meet the annual demand of 57,000 homes.

This wind power plant was contracted during the May 2017 energy auction and it aligns with the firm's plan to develop 233 MW of wind projects in the autonomous community of Galicia in 2018-2019. Currently, Naturgy has 304.6 MW of installed wind capacity there.
