NanoMarkets sees global BIPV market at USD 7.5bn in 2015
Oct 24, 2012 - Global revenues from building integrated photovoltaics (BIPV) are to reach USD 7.5 billion (EUR 5.8bn) in 2015, compared with USD 2.1 billion at present, researcher NanoMarkets projects.
Total of 63% of BIPV revenues are expected to come from new buildings in 2015.
According to the intelligence firm’s new report, The BIPV roofing market alone will hit USD 2.5 billion in three years, marking a four-fold jump. By 2015 specialised BIPV tiles and shingles are seen to bring 60% of BIPV roofing revenues, in contrast to today's 80% share of simple BIPV overlay products.
As for BIPV walling, NanoMarkets projects revenues of USD 830 million by 2015 as the segment is seen to take off when "zero-energy buildings and multistory office buildings find that roof-based PV is not capable of generating sufficient power for their needs". Yet the share of specialised wall-based BIPV products will remain low, while 62% of BIPV walling revenues will be brought by existing products "versioned" for a walling market.
The BIPV glass market is to hit USD 4.2 billion, NanoMarkets says, mainly due to the high-cost of the architectural glass that underpins BIPV glass. Yet, fully integrated BIPV glass products are to generate USD 375 million in revenues in 2015, the market report says.
