Aug 13, 2012 - The Mutriku sea wave power plant, located in the Basque Country, produced 200,000 kWh of electricity in the period between July and December 2011, news agency Europa Press said.
The facility will produce electricity totalling 600,000 kWh in 2012.
The power plant was launched on July 7, 2011, and has 15 turbines with a combined capacity of 300 kW. The Basque Country invested EUR 2.3 million (USD 2.8m) in its construction. Mutriku is operated by the public company Bimap, in which state-owned entity EVE controls 80%. The facility will start producing electricity for commercial use in the autumn of 2013, after additional investments of EUR 20 million.
