Sep 8, 2014 - The Ministry of Defence (MoD) has changed its stance on Banks Renewables’ proposal for a 23.8-MW wind park in southern Scotland and withdrew its objection to the project.
A press release published on Friday says that the DoM had reconsidered its decision after a period of consultation on the specifics of the wind scheme. Initially, it opposed the development because low-flying training exercises are regularly conducted in the area.
The renewables arm of UK land developer Banks Group filed plans for the seven-turbine project with Dumfries and Galloway Council in October 2013. Now that the ministry has withdrawn its objection, the council may proceed with its own review, said Colin Anderson, director at Banks Renewables.
The Knockendurrick wind farm was originally supposed to comprise ten turbines but the number was reduced due to technical and environmental issues and feedback from the local community. Banks expects to connect the wind park to the national grid by 2016.
The project will share 3% of its annual gross revenue with the community, or about GBP 6.5 million (USD 10.5m/EUR 8.1m) for its entire lifetime, Banks Renewables has calculated.
(GBP 1.0 = USD 1.614/EUR 1.247)
