MHI Vestas Offshore Wind today announced that Yeong Guan Energy Technology Group (YGG) will supply key components for the company’s V174-9.5 MW turbines, to be installed off the coast of Taiwan.
YGG will invest more than TWD 5 billion (USD 170m/EUR 151m) in its facility at the port of Taichung to prepare it for the production of rotor hubs, hub plates and nacelle base frames for MHI Vestas’ turbines.
MHI Vestas, a 50/50 joint venture between Japan's Mitsubishi Heavy Industries (TYO:7011) and Denmark's Vestas Wind Systems A/S (CPH:VWS), has been contracted to install V174-9.5 MW machines for Copenhagen Infrastructure Partners’ (CIP) Changfang and Xidao projects, totalling 589 MW, in 2022. YGG has established a new production line to support these projects.
The turbine maker has already inked purchase deals for critical components such as blades, switchgear and blade materials in addition to the components to be sourced from YGG. The company also has a tower supply contract in Taiwan. It expects more supply chain deals to be reached this year.
