December 18 (Renewables Now) - A total of 38 offshore renewable energy developers have won free access to testing facilities as part of the fourth call of the EU-backed MaRINET2 initiative.
The parties behind the initiative today granted EUR 1.3 million (USD 1.4m) of support in the form of free lab, tank and open-sea testing for wave, tidal and offshore wind technologies. This fourth call of the project brought the total amount to EUR 4.8 million and it will be followed by one final call, which is due to open in June 2020.
So far, MaRINET2 has allocated almost 400 weeks of access to its network of test centres. As part of the first MaRINET project, more than 700 weeks of access was given to 178 projects and 800 companies over the 4.5-year initiative.
“We are already starting to see the results of the project’s earlier calls, and the advances this testing brings to the technological state-of-the-art,” commented Jimmy Murphy, MaRINET2 project coordinator.
