SKOPJE (Macedonia), December 11 (SeeNews) – Macedonia’s Balkan Energy Group and Greece's PPC are interested in the tender for construction of the Cebren and Galiste hydro power plants in Macedonia, Skopje-based media reported.
Both companies had purchased tender documents, news daily Dnevnik (www.dnevnik.com.mk) quoted environment ministry spokesman Saso Sekulovski as saying on Monday.
This is the seventh attempt of the Macedonian government to find an investor for the project estimated at 500 million euro ($649 million), Dnevnik said.
Macedonia has extended the bidding deadline in the tender for the two power stations on the Crna river until January 3 from December 22, the environment ministry said last week, giving no reasons for the extension.
The winner of the tender will build the Cebren and Galiste power plants in partnership with Macedonian state-owned power producer Elektrani na Makedonija (ELEM) and will then operate them under a 52-year concession arrangement. ELEM should have at least 39% share in the public-private partnership.
The Cebren power station will have an installed capacity of 315 megawatts (MW) to 333 MW, while Galiste’s installed capacity is projected at 185 to 197 MW.
