SKOPJE (Macedonia), October 26 (SeeNews) – Macedonia is expected to complete the 100 million euro ($139 million) first stage of the Zletovica multi-purpose water management system in early November, Skopje-based media reported on Tuesday.
The first stage of the Zletovica system will boost the water supply capacity in eastern Macedonia, news daily Vecer (www.vecer.com.mk) reported, quoting Farming Minister Ljupco Dimovski.
A consortium of local building contractors Granit and Beton were selected for the construction of the first stage of the project.
Dimovski added that the completion of the first phase opens the way for the launch of the next two stages of the project.
The second stage covers the construction of an irrigation system that will service 4,500 hectares of land. It is estimated to cost 36.5 million euro and will take 3.5 years to complete, Vecer said.
The third stage of the project envisages the construction of three hydro power plants. It will cost 19.4 million euro and will take 30 months to complete.
The funds for the second and the third stage of the project will be provided by the European Investment Bank, Vecer said.
