Lightsource BP buys 1.9-GW solar pipeline in Brazil

Lightsource BP expansion into Brazilian PV sector

July 4 (Renewables Now) - Lightsource BP, the BP Plc (LON:BP) backed solar power business, has acquired about 1.9 GW of greenfield solar projects across Brazil from local renewables developer Enerlife.

The acquired pipeline includes 440 MW of large-scale projects that are ready to participate in auctions and 180 MW of distributed generation schemes across five states. The transaction will also see certain members of Enerlife become part of Lightsource BP, including CEO Miguel Lobo who joins the company as director of business development.

Lightsource BP intends to use those additions to grow its solar business across the Latin American country.

“We consider a new market entry strategy very carefully, and whilst we have identified an incredible opportunity in Brazil, we need to ensure we have the right capability on the ground to realise our ambitions,” commented Vlasios Souflis, Director for International Business Development for Lightsource BP.
