Jul 30, 2013 - Japan's Kyocera Corp (TYO:6971) said on Monday that it had put online a 2.4-MW solar system in Japan through its joint venture with Century Tokyo Leasing Corp (TYO:8439).
The Takamatsu Ikushima photovoltaic (PV) plant is located in Japan's Kagawa prefecture on the southern island of Shikoku. It is the first installation of the joint venture and is in line with Kyocera TCL Solar LLC's plan to operate up to 35 small- to mid-sized solar facilities in Japan in the next two years. The total capacity of the solar parks will be between 60 MW and 70 MW, or enough to supply about 20,000 local homes.
The partners are currently working on ten similar projects, and some are already in the construction phase. Five of these plants have capacities of below 2 MW in order to eliminate expenses related to high-voltage transmission lines.
Kyocera TCL Solar LLC was formed in 2012 in a drive to meet the growing demand on the Japanese solar market. Under the agreement Century Tokyo Leasing, which is the main shareholder, secures project funding, while Kyocera takes care of the provision of solar equipment, builds and maintains the solar plants.
