Sep 3, 2014 - German green projects developer Juwi AG said on Tuesday it had won a contract to build a 6.25-MW solar park in the Philippines, thus marking its entry into the country.
The German firm already has “well filled project pipeline” and hopes to conclude deals for several more projects in the Philippines in the next few weeks, it noted.
Juwi will install the 6.25-MW plant on the island of Mindanao under an engineering, procurement and construction (EPC) deal from an international developer and sector focused private equity fund. To be powered by 20,000 photovoltaic (PV) panels, the solar plant is expected to generate over 9 million kWh of power each year. It is anticipated to be switched on by the start of 2015 and will come as a replacement to conventional diesel-generated peak power.
At present, many regions in the Philippines are highly dependent on fossil fuels and diesel for the production of power. The government of the country is recently lifted the solar power allocation under its feed-in tariff (FiT) programme to 500 MW from 50 MW, getting ready for an expected power deficit next year.
