Sep 26, 2014 - Chinese solar panel manufacturer JA Solar Holdings Co Ltd (NASDAQ:JASO) said today it has reached a conversion efficiency of 20% for its multi-crystalline silicon (multi-Si) solar cell.
The photovoltaics (PV) company announced in February it has achieved 19% efficiency for the same type of solar cells, after in July 2013 it hit 18.3%.
The multi-Si PV cell uses proprietary light trapping and surface passivation technologies, which result in higher electricity generation, and thus reduces installation costs. The company intends to start mass-producing and integrating its product into module assembly facilities for commercial use in 2015.
JA Solar noted its research and development (R&D) team will continue working towards even higher efficiency levels in the future. It expects new performance records at the module level "in the near future".
