PODGORICA (Montenegro), March 24 (SeeNews) – Italian companies ENEL and A2A have asked Montenegro to give them more time to prepare their bids for concession on four hydropower plants, Montenegrin media reported on Thursday.
The two companies have informed the Montenegrin economy ministry that they are unable to prepare their bids by the initial April 15 deadline and need additional three months at least, Vijesti (www.vijesti.me) daily reported, quoting anonymous sources.
The coordinator of the project to grant a design-build-operate-transfer (DBOT) concession on four hydropower plants on the Moraca project, Nikola Jablan, has confirmed for the newspaper that the two Italian companies had sought an extension.
A2A, which participates in the tender jointly with Montenegrin power monopoly EPCG, and ENEL remain the only interested companies after shortlisted China’s Sinohydro Corporation and Austria’s Strabag withdrew at the end of last year.
The four plants should have a combined capacity of 721 million kilowatthours of electricity a year, enough to cover Montenegro’s power deficit, the economy ministry said earlier. The power plants should be built in six years for an estimated total of 530 million euro ($748 million).
