Italy's Council of Ministers has given the green light to 13 projects calling for the construction of 593.7 MW of agrivoltaic parks, mostly in the southern peninsular region of Puglia.
The resolution of environmental compatibility replaces the required environmental impact assessments for the projects and they will not need further clearance, the government announced last week.
Twelve of the approved projects are located in Puglia and one will be installed in the neighbouring region of Basilicata. Among the proposals is a scheme envisaging the installation of a 48.6-MW agrivoltaic plant in the municipalities of Borgo Mezzanone – Macchia Rotonda, Foggia province, while another one of 48.3 MWp, called Stornara 1, will be built in the Stornara municipality of Foggia.
The photovoltaic (PV) plant combining power generation with agricultural activities in Basilicata will be located in the municipality of Tolve, in the province of Potenza.
Under its National Integrated Plan for Climate and Energy, Italy aims to reach 95.2 GW of installed renewable energy capacity by 2030, of which 52 GW solar PV and 19.3 GW wind. Last October, the Council of Ministers cleared 314 MW of wind, solar and geothermal projects in several southern regions, in line with the country’s goal to cut reliance on Russian gas.
