Invenergy to install 1.5-MW Xtreme Power storage system at Illinois wind farm

Dec 19, 2012 - US clean energy company Invenergy said Tuesday it had formed a joint venture with energy storage systems provider Xtreme Power to develop a 1.5-MW energy storage system at its Illinois wind project.

The energy storage solution will be installed at Invenergy’s Grand Ridge Wind project in La Salle County. Xtreme Power’s Regulation Power Management (RPM) system will enable the supply of renewable electricity to the new frequency response market run by regional transmission organisation PJM.

The RPM system uses long-life lithium-titanate battery technology and an AGC signal to collect full four-quadrant power in less than one second.

The Invenergy project is Xtreme Power’s 14th installation and will be added to the company’s 77-MW portfolio upon commissioning of the project later this month.
