Canadian firm Innergex Renewable Energy Inc (TSE:INE) said Wednesday it has put into commercial operation a 40.6-MW run-of-river hydropower plant (HPP) in west Canada.
The Big Silver Creek HPP is located on public land north of Harrison Hot Springs, British Columbia province. Construction started in June 2014 and was completed in July 2016, earlier than expected and within the budget, the company said.
The commercial operation date (COD) certificate for the HPP was approved by BC Hydro and came into effect on July 29, 2016. The local utility will buy the entire output of the plant under a 40-year fixed-price power purchase agreement (PPA).
Big Silver Creek is expected to generate 139.8 GWh of electricity annually, enough to power more than 12,700 local households. During its first full year of operation, it is estimated to generate revenues of about CAD 18 million (USD 13.7m/EUR 12.4m).
“We are proud to have commissioned our 43rd facility, reinforcing our leadership position among independent power producers in British Columbia and in Canada, with a gross installed capacity totalling 1,359 MW,” president and CEO, Michel Letellier, said.
