A 1,000-MW solar tender by Uttar Pradesh New and Renewable Energy Development Agency (UPNEDA) has been oversubscribed by 870 MW, consultancy Mercom Capital reports.
According to unnamed UPNEDA officials, UPNEDA received 37 technical bids from 13 participants in the competitive selection for grid-connected plants in Uttar Pradesh, initially launched in January. Indian firms Acme Solar Holdings Pvt and ReNew Power took part with six proposals each, for projects totalling 300 MW and 280 MW, respectively. Solar power producer Azure Power (NYSE:AZRE) submitted bids for 300 MW, while Adani Group and Essel Group each bid for 250 MW of capacity.

Selected projects will be developed on a build-own-operate (BOO) basis, with the winners having the option to develop the schemes either at a single location or several sites, depending on land availability. According to the UPNEDA official, the tender is expected to close by the first week of July.
