India's Surat city to install 3rd wind farm of 6.3 MW - report
Jul 8, 2013 - Surat Municipal Corp (SMC), the body governing Surat city in India’s state of Gujarat, has hired a consultant for a 6.3-MW wind project -- SMC’s third, the Timed of India said Sunday.
The move is in line with the civic body’s efforts to become self-sufficient in terms of power demand. The planned facility is to power the Sarthana Water works and other water distribution centres in Surat, according to the report.
SMC has contracted Delhi-based Power And Energy as consultant to supervise the construction work, operate and maintain the wind farm and verify the electrical output. Once up and running, the wind power plant will bring SMC’s total wind capacity to 17.7 MW. The body already runs a 3-MW wind farm in Porbandar district and is nearing completion of an 8.4-MW facility for its Katargam water works.
