India's SECI completes 2-GW wind tender at INR 2.44-2.45/kWh - report

The lowest bid in India's latest, 2-GW wind auction was INR 2.44 (USD 0.038/EUR 0.031) per kWh, Mercom reported today.

The Solar Energy Corporation of India (SECI) has successfully completed the tranche III wind tender for 2 GW of Inter-State Transmission system (ISTS)-connected projects, the consultancy said citing SECI officials.

The lowest bid is in line with the record low of INR 2.43 per kWh for wind tariffs in India seen in December in a 500-MW tender in Gujarat. SECI previously held two 1-GW national wind tenders, with tariffs falling to INR 2.64 per kWh in the second in October 2017. Mercom said that the latest results show wind developers see the current range of tariffs as sustainable.

The winning list published by Mercom includes seven bidders that all offered INR 2.44 or INR 2.45 per kWh. ReNew Power got 400 MW, Green Infra Wind (Sembcorp) 300 MW, Inox Wind 200 MW, Torrent Power 499.8 MW, Adani Green Energy 250 MW, Alfanar Company 300 MW, and Betam Wind Energy (Engie), which bid for 250 MW, will be allocated 50.2 MW.

One SECI official was cited as commenting that wind tariffs are stabilising at about INR 2.50 per kWh. SECI recently launched another 2-GW wind auction.
