Indianapolis Intl Airport switches on 7.5-MW solar plant

Dec 24, 2014- The Indianapolis International Airport said on Monday it had put on stream a 7.5-MW solar photovoltaic (PV) facility on its land.

The plant expands the airport’s 12.5-MW solar park, which has been generating power since October 2013. The given capacity of the project’s first phase is in direct current (DC).

The 7.5-MW IND Solar facility consists of 32,100 sun-tracking PV panels that are expected to generate over 15.2 million kWh of electricity per year. Their output is estimated to be enough to supply more than 1,410 US households annually. The generated electricity will be sold to local utility Indianapolis Power & Light.

Among the project partners are General Energy Solutions USA, the Indianapolis Airport Authority (IAA), Johnson Melloh Solutions and Telamon Corp.

At present, the Indianapolis International Airport accommodates more than 76,000 PV panels on its land.
