Fox Metro Water Reclamation District said on Thursday that a 2.6-MW solar farm located at the site of its wastewater treatment plant in Montgomery, Illinois, is now fully operational.
The solar array will generate more than 3.9 million kWh per year, providing some 16% of the plant's power needs. According to the announcement, the installation will deliver more than USD 4 million (EUR 3.3m) in savings over the project life.
Funds for the project were secured from the Illinois Adjustable Block Program under the 2016 Future Energy Jobs Act.
The solar system will be owned, operated and maintained by Midwest solar installer GRNE Solar, which was awarded the project in a request for proposal (RfP) process run by Progressive Energy Solutions and Fox Metro.
