Icaen takes 5% in combined-cycle power plant in Borges Blanques
Dec 19, 2012 - Catalan power institute Icaen, controlled by the local government of the Catalonia region, has spent EUR 3 million (USD 4m) on the acquisition of 5% in a combined-cycle power plant in Les Borges Blanques, northern Spain, Icaen said yesterday.
The regional government gave the green light to the deal under its 2012-20 energy and climate change plan targeting to support renewable energies.
Spanish builder Comsa Emte and local engineering firm Abantia last week launched the 22.5 MW plant -- a hybrid project which combines a thermal solar technology with biomass. The facility with a total investment of EUR 153 million has a capacity to supply electricity to 27,000 homes and avoid 24,500 tonnes harmful emissions.
