March 1 (Renewables Now) – Spanish energy company Iberdrola SA (BME:IBE) and its Canary Islands partners inaugurated on Friday the long-gestating 18.3-MW Chimiche II wind park on the island of Tenerife.

Local company Energias Ecologicas de Tenerife SA developed the Chimiche II project, which was assigned in the Specific Canary Islands Wind Power Quota Tax Scheme.

Iberdrola took care of the technical side of the installation, while Inversiones Financieras Isla de Tenerife SL (IFIT) contributed with knowledge of the environment, the energy company said in a press release.

The Chimiche II wind farm is located in the municipality of Granadilla de Abona. Seven turbines supplied by Siemens Gamesa Renewable Energy SA (BME:SGRE) will generate enough electricity to cover the demand of 15,000 households.

Canary Islands government officials also attended the inauguration.
