Helexia, a unit of French renewables company Voltalia SA's (EPA:VLTSA), has won a contract to install 9.1 MWp of rooftop solar arrays at some locations of Spanish hypermarket chain Alcampo, the latter said last week.
Under the arrangement, nine of Alcampo’s stores will be equipped with photovoltaic (PV) systems, including carport solar installations, that are expected to collectively produce 13.3 GWh of power annually. Their installation will support the company’s goal of achieving carbon neutrality by 2043.
The output of the nine PV arrays will offset more than 3,000 tonnes of carbon dioxide (CO2) emissions annually, Alcampo estimates.
Helexia will start work on the project in 2023. The French company has been doing business in Spain since 2019 and has so far commissioned 20 projects in the Iberian country, with an additional 100 MWp planned to be developed in the coming years.
Earlier in November, Helexia installed the panels for three out of 20 rooftop solar systems totalling 25 MW for Auchan Retail in Hungary.
