Nov 16, 2012 - Danish firm Greentech Energy Systems A/S (CPH:GES) said today its total gross production of electricity from wind farms and solar photovoltaic (PV) plants was 41,129 MWh in October 2012, up by 28% on the year.
Net production amounted to 32,361 MWh last month, compared with 25,339 MWh a year earlier. The figures for October 2012 include expected electricity losses.
The company's gross wind power capacity increased to 252 MW in October 2012 from 250 MW in the same month in 2011, while solar power capacity was unchanged at 40 MW.
Greentech said that last month's wind power output was 35% higher than a year earlier and exceeded expectations by 30%. This was mainly due to extraordinary favourable wind conditions in Italy and Spain, where the wind farms performed 59% and 48% above budget, respectively. On the other hand, the turbines in Germany, Denmark and Poland had weaker-than-expected production due to poor wind conditions in northern Europe.
The actual output of Greentech's PV plants, which are located in Italy and Spain, was 4% higher than projected in October 2012. The technical problems with the tracking systems, which still affect production, are expected to be solved by the end of the year.
For the first 10 months of 2012, the company had a gross wind and solar output of 354,429 MWh, which corresponds to an annual increase of 30%.
