Sep 27, 2013 - US utility Green Mountain Power (GMP) on Thursday unveiled a 100% solar power option for residential clients in Texas.
The Smart People Accelerating Renewable Change (SolarSPARC) programme allows Texas residential electricity consumers to go 100% solar by purchasing power generated from solar power facilities. The scheme is available to Texas households from September 26.
Part of the solar power will come from Green Mountain’s newly-built Texas photovoltaic (PV) parks. The company will contribute USD 4 (EUR 2.96) per solarSPARC customer monthy for new solar projects in Texas.
Green Mountain is soon to start building a 10-kW solar system in Texas and plans to develop more project with various sizes every six months. Their sizes will depend on customer demand for the solar power option. Customers will get an annual bill credit of USD 11 for each solar project they help fund.
According to data of the Solar Energy Industries Association (SEIA), Texas has the highest solar power potential among all US states but ranks 15th in terms of installed PV capacity. Including all of its usable land areas, the state could have a solar capacity twice as high as any other state.
