Greece adds record 1.4 GW of fresh solar in 2022 - report

Greece’s solar photovoltaic (PV) capacity additions in 2022 reached a record-high of 1,362 MW, Energypress reports, citing preliminary statistics by the Hellenic Association of Photovoltaic Companies (HELAPCO).

The total represents a 62.5% increase as compared to the previous year when the Balkan country brought online 838 MW of solar parks. With the additions in 2022, Greece’s cumulative installed grid-connected solar power capacity has increased to 5,488 MW.

According to the preliminary figures, 341 MW of solar parks were connected to the transmission system in 2022, while 1,021 MW of plants were hooked to the power distribution network.

Net metering installations totalled 110 MW, about three times the total capacity additions in 2021.

Under its revised National Energy and Climate Plan (NECP), Greece aims to have 14.1 GW of installed PV capacity by 2030 and 34.5 GW by 2050.
