Global solar inverter sales reach 9.9 GW in Q3 2013

Dec 27, 2013 - Solar inverter sales worldwide reached 9.9 GW in the third quarter of 2013 and are expected to rise to 10.9 GW in the fourth quarter, according to a report by market analytics provider IHS.

In the second half of the year IHS expects a 21% year-on-year rise in solar inverter sales to 20.8 GW due to growth on the US, Chinese and Japanese markets, which will account for 64% of the global inverter shipments in the six-month period.

In contrast, sales in Europe, the Middle East and Africa are foreseen to decline by 31% year-on-year mainly due to shrinking markets in Italy and Germany.

Despite the projected increase in sales, however, global revenue in the period from July to December is seen to drop by 1% year-on-year to USD 3.5 billion (EUR 2.5bn).

In 2014, IHS projects global inverter sales to increase by 13% to 41 GW, compared with 2013.
