August 19 (Renewables Now) - Gexa Energy LP, a retail electricity provider that operates in Texas, announced today that from now on all of its new residential plans will be backed by 100% renewable energy.

The change will come at no additional cost to customers, Gexa said in a statement.

The company, which is a subsidiary of wholesale electricity generator NextEra Energy Resources, offers green plans through the purchase and retirement of renewable energy credits (RECs) from wind and solar farms in Texas to match the electricity amount consumed by its customers.

Gexa’s parent operates more than 17,000 MW of wind and solar power plants in North America and says is the largest generator of wind and solar power in the world.
