SARAJEVO (Bosnia and Herzegovina), July 27 (SeeNews) – Germany’s RWE filed an offer with a bank guarantee to participate in a 500 million euro ($717 million) project to build four hydropower plants on the Drina river in Bosnia’s Serb Republic, Bosnian media reported on Thursday.
Apart from RWE, Greek power utility Public Power Corp. is expected to shortly file a bid, news wire Capital.ba (www.capital.ba) reported quoting Milan Bastinac, assistant to the Serb Republic energy minister.
Bastinac said six foreign companies have so far bought tender documents for the Gornja Drina project.
The ministry earlier this week extended until August 11 the deadline for filing letters of interest for the project upon request of big international energy companies, Capital.ba said.
The Gornja Drina power plants - Buk Bjela, Foca, Paunci and Sutjeska - will use the potential of the upper flow of the Drina river, which forms most of the border between Bosnia and Serbia. Their combined electricity output is planned to reach 800 gigawatt hours per year.
