Nov 9, 2011 - German engineering group Siemens (ETR:SIE) and multi-utility E.ON (ETR:EOAN) may join the consortium led by French utility GDF Suez (EPA:GSZ) which is vying in France's first tender for offshore wind turbines, French daily Les Echos reported today without disclosing its sources.
Reportedly, Siemens would be ready to work with GDF Suez on the Saint-Brieuc maritime zone which may host up to 100 wind turbines.
A possible entry of E.ON will reduce the amount of the investments planned by GDF Suez and its major partner in the consortium, French building company Vinci (EPA:DG).
Until now, GDF Suez and Vinci had plans to pursue the development of three of the five maritime zones included in the tender, namely Treport, Courseulles-sur-mer and Fecamp. However, with the assistance of the German groups, GDF Suez may also bid for the Saint-Brieuc zone.
Another French consortium will also vie in the tender. It comprises renewable energy group EDF Energies Nouvelles, Alstom, Danish Dong Energy, WPD Offshore and Nass & Wind. That consortium is expected to bid for all five maritime zones.
