(SeeNews) – Sep 3, 2012 – Germany's Ministry of Education and Research will support a new energy research programme of the Juelich institute with EUR 6.5 million (USD 8.1m).
Juelich is planning to bring the research of materials, used in solar cells and batteries, down to the atoms they are made of and also wants to understand the processes happening on the materials' surface.
Besides improving the production and efficiency of photovoltatic (PV) systems, the other aim of Juelich's programme is to increase the power density and lifespan of batteries.
Juelich expects that the new materials developed by the research would make existing renewable energy-related technologies more affordable and efficient and would thus contribute to Germany’s transition to renewable power.
The Federal Ministry of Education and Research (BMBF) supports the project within the framework of its 6th Energy Research Programme.
