Dec 3, 2012 - GE Power & Water, the renewables arm of US engineering company General Electric (NYSE:GE), has secured a BRL-820 million (USD 383.9m/EUR 294.6m) wind turbine supply order from Brazil's green energy developer Renova Energia (SAO:RNEW11), Brazilian daily Folha said yesterday.
Under the terms of the deal GE Power & Water will deliver 230 turbines to be installed at Renova's Alto Sertao 2 wind farms complex, whose construction in northeastern Bahia state was kicked off last month.
After the venture's completion, scheduled for 2014, it will have a total installed capacity of 375 MW, thus ranking the biggest wind complex in Latin America, Folha wrote.
Renova recently completed its 294.4-MW Alto Sertao I wind complex, which comprises 184 GE-produced turbines and is currently the largest in Latin America. Although the 14 farms within the undertaking are still awaiting the construction of their associated transmission system to go on stream, the units are already considered part of the company's operational portfolio, which currently stands at 336 MW.
