US conglomerate General Electric (NYSE:GE) has landed a deal to supply 1.2 GW of wind turbines to Forestalia Group, which has won 40% of Spain's 3-GW renewable energy auction held on Wednesday.
Through the Sociedad Aragonesa Transeuropea de Energias Renovables, Forestalia has secured a contract from Spain's energy ministry to develop a 1.2-GW wind farm in Aragon, GE said today as it announced the supply deal.
GE Renewable Energy will provide wind turbines from its 3-MW product range to this project and also to a 300-MW wind farm that Forestalia was awarded in a tender in January 2016. The turbines will be made in Europe.
"GE is immensely proud that the turbine that will equip the future farms is a European product with the nacelle produced in Germany in addition to the towers and blades manufactured in Spain" said Jerome Pecresse, president and chief executive of GE Renewable Energy.
According to the announcement, Forestalia is currently preparing for the construction of the first 300-MW wind farm, which is also located in Aragon, after receiving approvals from the Aragon government in August. In the January 2016 tender, the company won a total 408.5 MW of wind and bioenergy projects.
