GDF Suez,Portugal's EDP may ally in France's 2nd wind offshore tender - report

Jul 8, 2013 - French gas utility GDF Suez (EPA:GSZ) may opt to join forces with EDP Renovaveis (ELI:EDPR), the green energy arm of Portuguese power utility EDP (ELI:EDP), in France's second wind offshore tender, French daily Les Echos said today without naming sources.
Reportedly, the two groups plan to bid together in a 50/50 consortium, which is to fund and operate the offshore wind farms if it is chosen. French nuclear group Areva (EPA:AREVA), which last week was also rumoured as a possible tender partner of GDF Suez, is also involved in the talks mainly regarding the turbines supply, Les Echos claimed.
France's second tender concerns two projects with a total installed capacity of 1,000 MW; some 2,000 MW were awarded in the first bidding process. Bids must be placed before the end of November with results expected in the first quarter of 2014. A rival group comprising France's EDF (EPA:EDF) and Alstom (EPA:ALO) has confirmed its joint bid, having won the bulk of the projects in the first round, when the Areva-GDF consortium did not get any.
