Gaelectric orders Enercon turbines for 13.8-MW wind farm
Jul 16, 2012 - Irish wind energy developer Gaelectric said Friday it had ordered wind turbines from German Enercon GmbH for its 13.8-MW Carn Hill wind farm in Northern Ireland.
Located in County Antrim, the wind farm will include six E-70 turbines of 2.3 MW each and is expected to produce enough power for 7,900 homes. There is a power purchase agreement in place to sell the electricity to Electric Ireland.
Gaelectric said the deal with Enercon would allow the GBP-20-million (USD 31m/EUR 26m) project to come online in the first quarter of 2013. The developer has already completed the first construction phase.
Working together with Gaelectric, Enercon will also provide most of the civil and electrical infrastructure for the wind power facility. The German company will in addition be responsible for full maintenance of the turbines.
