First Solar modules approved for 10% FiT premium in Italy
Sep 1, 2011 - Projects in Italy built with solar modules from the Frankfurt plant of US solar module maker First Solar (NASDAQ:FSLR) will benefit from a 10% premium on the standard feed-in-tariff (FiT), the company announced today.
Modules made at the factory meet Italy's requirements for at least 60% local content which are part of the Conto Energia 4 FiT scheme. Through the 10% bonus, Conto Energia 4 seeks to promote the use of made-in-Europe components.
First Solar's Frankfurt plant received certification after an official inspection by VDE, the German Association for Electrical, Electronic & Information Technologies.
The capacity of the factory, which has been running since 2007, is currently being expanded to some 500 MW a year. First Solar has over 1,400 employees in the European Union, including more than 1,200 in Frankfurt.
