US thin-film solar module maker First Solar Inc (NASDAQ:FSLR) today unveiled deals to supply 4.9 GW DC of solar modules to US clean energy developer Intersect Power LLC over the period from 2025 to 2029.
After a 2.4-GW DC order in July 2022, the new agreements mean Intersect Power has ordered 7.3 GW DC of First Solar modules this year, on top of the 4.1 GW DC ordered in 2019 and 2021.
Intersect Power is thus set to become the largest buyer and operator of First Solar technology by 2029.
The 2022 deals are for First Solar’s Series 6 Plus and Series 7 modules, which will be used in Intersect Power’s solar, storage and green hydrogen projects to be delivered from 2025 to 2029 across the US.
Of the latest agreements for 4.9 GW, the contract for 1 GW was signed before First Solar’s earnings call in October and remaining 3.9 GW after that.
“We have an unprecedented opportunity to decarbonise our economy while simultaneously bolstering our manufacturing sector and providing clean energy security,” commented Intersect Power chief executive Sheldon Kimber.
“Intersect Power was one of the early pioneers of long-term, multi-year procurement and has benefitted from the certainty of supply and stable pricing that this approach delivers,” added Georges Antoun, First Solar's chief commercial officer.
On Wednesday, First Solar announced it will build a 3.5-GW DC vertically integrated module production facility in Alabama.
