(SeeNews) - Aug 20, 2013 - The volume of biogas fed into Germany's natural gas grid in 2012 grew by 50% on the year to around 413 million cu m, the German Federal Network Agency reported on Monday.
The volume is targeted to grow to 6 billion cu m by 2020.
The number of biogas facilities connected to the public gas grid rose by 40% year-on-year to 108 as of December 31, 2012.
The feed-in of biogas into the gas supply network can considerably contribute to energy production with low carbon dioxide emissions and to electricity production orientated towards demand, the agency president, Jochen Homann, said. Biogas can be also used regardless of the place and time of production.
The average production cost stood at EUR 0.057 (USD 0.077) per kWh, with the range being between EUR 0.018 and EUR 0.083, the agency added. The average sale price came in at EUR 0.07.
