EU offshore RE support project awards EUR 1.3m in 1st call

A total of 34 teams have receive awards under the EUR-10.5-million (USD 12m) MaRINET2 project, aimed at supporting the development of offshore wind, wave and tidal technologies.

According to a statement released today, the 34 teams have won EUR 1.3 million in the first in a series of competitive calls for proposals seeking fully funded access to 57 test infrastructures in the MaRINET2 network. The backing will facilitate almost 500 days of testing at 20 sites around Europe, including the European Marine Energy Centre (EMEC) in Orkney, Scotland.

“In order to bring their product to market, it is essential for technology developers to de-risk their technologies through rigorous and staged testing programmes,” said Jimmy Murphy, co-ordinator of MaRINET2, adding that this project allows just that.

MaRINET2 is funded by the European Commission’s Horizon 2020 programme, and coordinated by the MaREI (Marine and Renewable Energy Ireland) Centre in University College Cork. It is a continuation of the MaRINET project that ran from 2011 to 2015.
