Singapore-based renewable energy producer Equis Energy has won a contract to develop Taiwan's largest solar project, a 70.2-MW park, it said today.
The contract is from the Taiwanese Ministry of Economic Affairs' Bureau of Energy and was secured in a two‐site public tender. Equis won both tenders and picked the larger project site as under the auction rules it had to choose one of the two. The company now has the right to sign a 20‐year power purchase agreement (PPA) with Taiwan Power Company (Taipower).
To be located in Yizhu township, Chiayi county, the project is expected to start construction early next year.
"Taiwan is at a critical juncture in the development of its energy resources, and the award of the Chiayi solar project, after a very competitive bidding process, represents a significant step forward," said Equis chairman David Russell. Taiwan's government has set a goal of 20 GW of solar power capacity by 2025 as part of an overall renewables objective of 28 GW.
Equis has 100 MW of solar assets under construction and advanced development in the country. It says it has 581 MW of utility‐scale solar and wind projects in development that are expected to come online within the next five years.
