May 29 (Renewables Now) - German energy company E.on SE (ETR:EOAN) today announced the launch of Google's Project Sunroof in the UK.

Project Sunroof is an online tool that allows homeowners to calculate potential savings from installing solar panels. Using Google Earth, Google Maps and machine learning, it estimates a house's solar potential by examining the surroundings, weather data, sun positioning and roof area and angle. In addition to Google, E.on is partnering with software provider Tetraeder on the initiative.

The utility said the move is part of its efforts to offer smarter solutions to customers like its solar and storage offering.

E.on launched Project Sunroof in Germany a year ago. It recently said that the UK launch was upcoming, while a launch in Italy was in preparation. In Germany, meanwhile, the partnership with Google was extended until the end of 2018.
