October 5 (Renewables Now) - Spanish power utility Endesa SA (BME:ELE), through its renewables unit Enel Green Power Espana, has put a 3.34-MW photovoltaic (PV) park into operation in Mallorca.
Located in the municipality of Palma, the Son Orlandis solar plant is capable of generating around 5.67 GWh per year, enough to meet the demand of 1,440 local homes, the company said on Tuesday.
The new solar farm is part of Endesa's 56.6-MWp portfolio in Mallorca. Besides Son Orlandis, EGPE has the 21.83-MW Sa Caseta and the 14.97-MW Biniatria solar plants as well as the Can na Lloreta PV park which is currently under construction.
Together, these four assets were co-financed by the European Regional Development Fund (ERDF) for a total investment of EUR 47 million (USD 46.5m).
Endesa noted that Son Orlandis will also have a second stage featuring a 1.1-MW/5.5-MWh energy storage system of vanadium redox flow batteries (VRFB).
