Enel Green Power plans USD 572.5m projects in Chile - report
Aug 15, 2011 - Enel Green Power (BIT:EGPW), a unit of Italy's power group Enel SpA (BIT:ENEL), plans to develop renewable energy projects for EUR 400 million (USD 572.5m) in Chile in the next five years, Chilean daily Diario Financiero reported on Saturday.
One project, which is currently at the stage of its environmental assessment, is for the exploration of geothermal resources in northern Chile with a potential capacity of over 100 MW.
Other projects in northern Chile include a wind farm and a photovoltaic research and development project for solar panels, which could supply electricity in remote places, Enel Green Power's CEO Francesco Starace told Diario Financiero.
The company also plans small hydroelectric plants in southern Chile whose construction could start in 2012.
Enel Green Power is ready to consider new projects in Chile, Brazil and Mexico in the next years if there are good opportunities, Starace said.
