Endesa to take part in EUR-12.6m EU renewables research project

Endesa SA (BME:ELE) has joined a EUR-12.6-million (USD 14.2m) research project aimed at addressing opportunities and challenges associated with the integration of renewables into the EU electricity grid and distributed generation development.

The Spanish energy company is taking part in the European SmartNet consortium, which will apply new technologies to aggregate demand of small consumers and generators and as a result improve the efficiency and stability of the power grid.

The three-year project is headed by Ricerca sul Sistema Energetico (RSE) and is part of the EU Horizon 2020 initiative.

Endesa said it will contribute EUR 385,000 to the total budget and will participate in the Spanish pilot project together with Tecnalia, Danske Commodities and Vodafone.

The consortium consists of a total of 22 companies, including distribution firms, transporters, regulators, research centres and industrial partners from Italy, Austria, Denmark, Belgium, Norway, the UK, Finland, Luxembourg and Spain.
