Spanish electric utility Endesa SA (BME:ELE) said that it is currently building 27 renewable energy projects in Spain to add over 1,130 MW of new capacity.
These projects are located in the regions of Aragon, Castile-La Mancha, Extremadura, Andalusia, and the Balearic Islands, and are part of the company’s plan to reach 12,300 MW of solar, wind and hydro power capacity in the Iberian Peninsula by the end of 2024 and generate only from renewables in 2040.
Endesa, through its renewables division Enel Green Power Espana, currently manages 8,390 MW of installed capacity -- 4,746 MW of hydro, 2,546 MW of wind farms and 1,098 MW of solar plants, it said.
Among the ongoing wind and solar projects, Endesa highlighted its work on the 49.71 MWp Sedeis V solar farm it had recently started building next to its decommissioned Andorra thermal power plant in the region of Aragon.
In Extremadura, five new solar farms of around 49.5 MW each are popping up, and will come online before the end of the year. In southern Spain, in Andalusia region, the Enel Green Power Espana team is building two 50-MWp solar farms and working on securing permits for a group of 40 solar PV projects.
Apart from these, new wind and solar projects in Castile-La Mancha will add 497 MW of installed capacity by the end of the year, the company said.
