German electric utility EnBW Energie Baden-Wuerttemberg AG (ETR:EBK) is starting the construction of a 37.8-MW wind project in Brandenburg after receiving a permit.
The Proetzel II wind farm will be located about 50 km northeast of Berlin and will be equipped with nine Enercon E138 turbines with a hub height of 160 meters, EnBW said on Tuesday.
The construction start follows the granting of a permit under the Federal Immission Control Act after several years of delays and numerous reports on species protection, aviation and fire protection.
After completing the construction of the cable routes, the extinguishing water tanks, and access roads, the turbines will be installed in the course of this year and the beginning of the next. The wind farm is expected to start producing electricity at the end of July 2023.
The project was among the winners in the Federal Network Agency's tender in March.
The Karslruhe-based utility is planning to invest some EUR 4 billion (USD 4.01bn) in the expansion of solar and wind energy in 2021-2025 and boost the share of renewables in its power generation portfolio to about 50% by 2025.
