September 30 (Renewables Now) - France’s EDF Renewables on Tuesday announced the acquisition of a 29% stake in French start-up Ecosun Innovations, which specialises in microgrid solutions for remote locations.

A capital increase in favour of EDF Renewables has been carried out. The investment will help Ecosun in its plans to expand in the Middle East, Southeast Asia and Australia, in addition to Africa, the Caribbean and South America, where it is already active.

The two companies have also agreed to form a strategic partnership in microgrid offering.

"This investment reflects the EDF Group’s ambition to expand its microgrid offerings and to provide innovative solutions that balance global preservation and development," Bruno Bensasson, EDF Renewables CEO, noted.

Ecosun's plug-in Mobil-Watt container consists of solar panels and gel or lithium batteries and provides electricity for a number of hours after sunset. The company's product range also includes semi-mobile and stationary containerised solutions for power suppliers, industry, farming, retail and commercial applications that are off the grid or served by lower quality grids.
